Full Event Registry Terms of Service

1. Terms of Service Introduction

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) apply to all use of the Event Registry website, API (including NewsAPI.ai), and any other services or content we make available (collectively, the “Service”). The Service is operated by Event Registry d.o.o., a company incorporated and based in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

By using our Service in any form, you agree to be bound by these Terms without modification, and to our Privacy Policy.

We reserve the right to update these Terms to reflect changes in our services, policies, or legal obligations. It is your responsibility to review this page regularly (https://eventregistry.org/terms). If you continue to use the Service after an update, it means you accept the revised Terms.

2. Your Account and Communications

When you create an Event Registry account, you are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. You are also fully responsible for all activity that happens under your account. If you suspect unauthorized use or a security breach, please notify us immediately.

To register, you must use a valid company or academic email address. We do not support signups with personal or disposable email providers.

By signing up, you agree to receive:

  • A required activation email to confirm your account
  • A limited number of onboarding emails to help you get started
  • Occasional updates about technical or product-related changes

3. Free Access

We offer limited free access to help you explore our Service and evaluate whether it's right for your needs. Free access is intended solely for evaluation and testing. It may not be used for any project, research, or application that produces commercial or institutional value, even indirectly.

Free access is available only to registered users and is currently limited to providing content published in the last 30 days.

Registered users receive 2,000 free tokens. After using these tokens, a paid subscription is required to continue using the Service.

We reserve the right to suspend or deactivate accounts in the event of suspected misuse, fraud, or abuse, including attempts to bypass usage limits or create multiple accounts.

4. Paid Access and Subscription Terms

To gain full access to our Service, you will need a paid subscription.

  • For platform (web interface) access, pricing is available by request. Please contact us to receive a custom quote based on your needs.
  • For API access, you can choose from publicly available plans at https://newsapi.ai/plans, or reach out for a custom enterprise plan tailored to your use case.

Subscription and Billing

  • Subscriptions are billed monthly and renew automatically unless cancelled at least one (1) day before the next billing period.
  • By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your saved payment method for recurring fees.
  • You can cancel your subscription at any time. Your access will remain active through the end of the billing cycle. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable.
  • All prices are in USD and may be subject to applicable taxes based on your billing location.

Changes and Access

  • We reserve the right to change our pricing with 30 days’ notice.
  • In the event of failed payments, we may suspend or downgrade your account until the payment issues are resolved.
  • Your level of access (API or platform) depends on your subscription.

Custom Agreements and Overrides

Some clients may have separate written agreements with us (for example, enterprise contracts, MSAs, or SLAs). If there is any conflict between these Terms and the separate agreement, the terms of the separate agreement will prevail.

5. Data Ownership and Usage License

Event Registry collects and processes publicly available online content generated by news publishers and other data providers. By subscribing to a paid plan, you are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable license to access and use Event Registry data for commercial purposes, provided that all use complies with third-party copyright and intellectual property laws. Event Registry retains full ownership of all datasets, metadata, and any derivatives thereof.

Some data returned through the service includes third-party content (such as text, images, or videos from external publishers). It is your sole responsibility to ensure that any use of such content complies with applicable law and the rights of the original content owners. Event Registry does not grant or broker publishing rights for third-party content.

6. Data Restrictions

Access to the Event Registry is granted under the condition of responsible and permitted use. Unless expressly authorized, you may not:

Misuse the service or bypass controls:

  • Create multiple accounts to avoid limits
  • Attempt to bypass rate limits, API restrictions, or authentication controls

Republish or redistribute data:

  • Share, sell, sublicense, or redistribute the data provided by our Service
  • Redistribute content received via the API, including publishing or embedding, without the appropriate rights or licensing from the original content owner
  • Build or market directly competing media intelligence, news aggregation, or event detection services.

7. Third-Party Content and Disclaimer

Event Registry aggregates and delivers structured information derived from global news sources and other data providers (third-party content). This may include article titles, content, publication metadata, and URLs linking to the original sources. Event Registry is not the author of this third-party content. We organize, enrich, and deliver it in a structured form to support analysis, research, and monitoring.

Event Registry provides content “as it is” published online and does not alter or verify it. We therefore cannot guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of this information for any specific use. The responsibility for verifying the reliability of the content remains with the user. We are not liable for any damages arising from the use of the third-party content.

8. Intellectual Property Rights

Event Registry owns all rights, title, and interest in and to the platform, APIs, software, analytics, user interface, underlying technology, visual design, and any structured metadata (including extracted entities, categorization, and sentiment) it generates. This includes all intellectual property rights, whether registered or unregistered, and extends to derivative works, improvements, and enhancements.

You do not acquire any ownership rights by using the service. You are granted a license to use the service and export data or visualizations as permitted under this agreement. You may not reproduce, reverse engineer, or commercially repurpose Event Registry’s software, branding, or technology without prior written permission.

9. Termination

You may terminate your account at any time by discontinuing use of Event Registry. If you have a paid plan, termination will take effect at the end of your current billing cycle, unless otherwise agreed upon.

Event Registry may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if:

  • You breach these Terms
  • Your organization has unresolved billing or compliance issues
  • Continued access would pose a legal or operational risk

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends immediately, but any provisions of this Agreement that reasonably should survive termination will remain in effect. This includes ownership rights, limitations of liability, indemnities, disclaimers, and terms for dispute resolution.

10. Copyright Infringement and Takedown Policy

Event Registry respects the intellectual property rights of others and expects its users to do the same.

If you believe that content accessible via Event Registry (either through the platform or API) infringes your copyright, you may submit a written notification in accordance with the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). Your notification must include:

  • A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or person authorized to act on their behalf
  • Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed
  • A description of where the infringing material is located (including URL or API output)
  • Your name, address, phone number, and email address
  • A statement that you have a good faith belief the use is not authorized by the copyright owner
  • A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and you are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner

Send DMCA notices to: info@eventregistry.org

Upon receipt of a valid notification, we will take appropriate action, which may include disabling access to the allegedly infringing content. We may also notify the user who provided the content and provide an opportunity for counter-notification, where applicable under the DMCA.

If you are located outside the U.S., you may also submit a copyright complaint under applicable local law using the same process.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

Event Registry is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. While we continuously strive to maintain high availability, accuracy, and performance, we cannot guarantee that the Service will operate without interruption or error.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Event Registry disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

Nothing in this clause limits Event Registry’s obligation to maintain commercially reasonable service levels or to comply with any service-level agreement (SLA) explicitly agreed in writing with enterprise clients.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Event Registry, including its directors, officers, employees, and affiliates, shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including loss of profits, data, or goodwill — arising from your use of the service.

Our total cumulative liability for any claim related to these Terms or your use of the Service will not exceed the fees you paid to Event Registry in the six (6) months prior to the event giving rise to the claim.

13. Indemnification

You (the Client) agree to indemnify and hold harmless Event Registry, its contractors, and its licensors, and their respective directors, officers, employees, and agents from and against any and all claims and expenses, including attorneys' fees, arising out of your use of the Service, including but not limited to your violation of these Terms.

14. Force Majeure

Event Registry will not be liable for any delay or failure to perform resulting from causes outside its reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, natural disasters, war, terrorism, labor conditions, internet outages, third-party service failures, government actions, or power disruptions.

15. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Slovenia, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any disputes arising under or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in Slovenia.

16. Entire Agreement and Severability

These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and Event Registry regarding your use of the Service, superseding all prior agreements or understandings (whether oral or written).

If any part of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect. A failure to enforce any provision shall not be deemed a waiver of that provision.
